1. Best Overall Electric Wine Opener

A simple push-button design lets you remove natural and synthetic corks quickly and easily, and the transparent body lets you see the cork get pulled up by the motor – always a fun way to impress your dinner guests.

You can open up to 60 bottles of wine on a single charge with the Ozeri, and while that isn’t as many as some other models with stronger models, we felt that it was more than enough for the average wine drinker. It’s freestanding, cordless, and doesn’t require batteries, so it’s much slimmer than other electric wine openers.

If you like to stretch out a quality bottle of wine or don’t drink much at once, then the included stopper will be a nice feature for you. While the detachable wine-pourer might not be necessary for most of us, the included foil cutter is an absolute necessity if you want to get your wine open in a hurry.

It does emit a bit of noise when you use it, but that mostly adds to the cool factor, as does the blue light it emits when charging. At this price point, this is a solid little electric wine opener that will be at home in most kitchens and bar carts.

Pros and Cons
  • Includes wine pourer, stopper, and foil cutter
  • Cordless
  • Stands Upright
  • Removes Natural and Synthetic Corks
  • Noisy
  • Requires Wall Mount Charging

2. Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener

If you’re an occasional wine drinker but hate messing with a corkscrew, you might want to take a look at the Oster Cordless Electric Bottle Opener. It’s a good, all-around model for casual use and its reported to last years with steady motor performance.

Operation is pretty easy with this model, since it only has one button that’s used to pull the cork straight out of the bottle and then release it from the opener.

On a full charge, the Oster can open 30 bottles of wine, and though that might not be enough for people who serve large amounts of wine at once, it’s great for the casual enjoyer of wine. The wine opener is cordless, and the charging dock takes about six hours with an indicator light letting you know when it’s ready to use.

The electric wine opener is compact, only 2 ¼ inches diameter and 10 ¾ inches tall, so it’s great if you don’t have a lot of storage free. The Oster also includes a foil opener, which is a must-have for almost all wine bottles.

While it doesn’t have a lot of the special features of some of the higher-end models, the Oster is a great, sturdy little unit for most people.

Pros and Cons
  • Compact Design
  • Long-Lasting
  • Easy to Use
  • Cordless
  • Shorter Battery Life
  • No Re-Seal Function

iTronics IC700

If you love wine but are really tight on space, we think the iTronics IC700 might be a good choice for you. This electric wine opener is slim, almost like a small flashlight, and only weighs a little over a pound.

We liked that there’s no bulky charging dock with this model, only a USB cord that plugs directly into the wall and the unit and can be stored separately. Charging time is between 3-5 hours, and the iTronics IC700 can open an impressive 180 bottles before needing a recharge.

This wine opener is made out of stainless steel, which makes it easier to clean, plus a foil cutter which we think is an absolute necessity with any electric wine opener. We wish it had a re-seal feature, but feel free to drink up since it’s going to be so easy to open the next bottle.

It’s pretty straightforward to use, with a single push-button to pull out the cork and release it from the unit, and a charge light that let’s you know when your opener has a full charge.

Overall, we thought this was a great little model if space saving is the most important thing to you.

  • USB Wall Charging Cord
  • Fast Charge Time

  • No Battery Power

Everyone has a hard-to-buy-for individual in their life, but seriously, who doesn’t love wine? While you could just gift any of the electric wine openers that we listed to your friends and family, you can also step up your game with the Ivation Wine Gift Set.

We liked that the electric wine opener is a solid piece in this set, opening up to 30 bottles on a single charge. While that’s not as many as some other models, the whole set is designed to be stored on the charging deck and form part of the décor, so it’s usually ready to go when you want to open some wine.

The opener has a transparent body, so you can see the cork being pulled up, and it glows slightly blue while charging. You can use the wine opener on either battery power or with the included power adapter.

Since it’s a gift set, we took at look at the usefulness of the other items included. Our favorite were the wine stoppers, which are nice for preserving a bottle for future use. There’s also a detachable pouring spout and a vacuum pump sucks air out of the bottle before you reseal it, which is nice if you prize the quality of your wine.

Overall, wine nuts should love this gift set and it makes enjoying wine a lot easier for a newbie, too.

Pros and Cons
  • Nice-Looking Charging Dock
  • Included Wine-Stoppers, Vacuum Pump, Pouring Stop
  • Stainless Steel
  • Short Charge Life
  • Higher Price Point

While most of the electric wine openers we reviewed are created from a combination of plastic and stainless steel, there are some benefits of a solid stainless-steel construction, like ease of cleaning and it’s nicer appearance.

For a simple model that will look good on your countertop, we liked the Secura SWO-3N. The charging dock is a nice-looking black pedestal and the foil cutter has its own holding area.

While it’s not quite as compact as other models we reviewed, it’s nice that the wine opener itself is freestanding when in use, which is helpful if you want to keep it handy during a party. The charging station plugs into the wall and you can open about 30 bottles on a single charge.

Though we wish that the Secura had a re-seal function, it’s a very sturdy little model with a motor that won’t kick out on you in a hurry. It might be a good pick for you if you just want a simple, non-fussy electric wine opener that’s easy to clean and looks cool charging.

Pros and Cons
  • Stainless Steel
  • Foil Cutter
  • Freestanding Wine Opener
  • No Re-Seal Function
  • Shorter Charge Life

Why an Electric Wine Opener?

There’s nothing like relaxing at the end of a long day or kicking off a great night with a nice bottle of wine. You have music playing, dinner’s ready, and…. you can’t get the cork out of the bottle.

Rather than having to sheepishly ask someone to open your wine for you with a traditional corkscrew, we recommend using an electric wine opener like the Ozeri Nouveaux II to get the party started.

When reviewing dozens of wine openers for our Top 5 roundup, we prioritized ease of use, storage, and how many bottles of wine you can open with a single charge. The Ozeri scored highly on all three but take a look through our Top 5 to find the best fit for you.

Most wines are stored in a glass bottle with a cork sealing the top, and the traditional method of opening the bottle is with a corkscrew.

This little gadget, attached to pocketknives and rattling around in kitchen drawers all over the world, gets the job done, but is actually kind of a pain to use for many people.

It takes some strength to drill the corkscrew down into the cork, and then pull it back up without breaking the cork, knocking your bottle over, or just puncturing the cork several times without actually moving it.

Electric wine openers are much better at opening wine without breaking the cork, since they use more even pressure than a manual corkscrew does.

Even if arm strength isn’t an issue for you, some of us just have trouble getting the angle correct on the cork, which is where electric wine openers come in handy because they typically don’t need to be centered as precisely. And if you’re like me, when you want a glass of wine, you want it right now.

Additionally, wine enthusiasts who like to serve wine at parties usually need to open several bottles at once, since Don wants the chilled white wine and Emma wants the red. Using an electric wine opener saves a lot of time that would be spent getting a corkscrew into a bottle and lets you spend it with your guests instead.

Is an electric wine opener a gadget that only does one thing? Sure it is, but that one thing that it does is pretty darn handy.

Getting an electric wine opener might be a good move for you if:

  • You Serve Wine Regularly
  • You Have Trouble Opening Wine
  • You Need to Reseal a Bottle After Opening
  • You Have Arthritis

Keep in mind that all electric wine openers need a power source, like batteries or an outlet for a charging dock, so plan ahead. You don’t want to bring out your electric wine opener to dazzle your friends only to realize that it’s out of juice.

If you regularly find yourself asking your partner, roommate, or the next door neighbor to open a bottle of wine for you, do yourself a favor and just invest in an electric wine opener. It will make your life so much easier.

What Should I Look for in an Electric Wine Opener?

Every electric wine opener is basically a small motor housed inside a plastic or metal body with a puncturing tool and an operating button.

When reviewing electric wine openers for you, we felt that the most important factors were ease of use, compact storage, and battery life.

While wine aficionados may be more interested in the special features available on many electric wine opener models, we felt that the average wine drinker needs an easy-to-use device that doesn’t take up a ton of space and is ready to use whenever the need for wine strikes.

Based on our reviews, most wine openers use the same touch-button operation. The motor inside the body of the device does the work for you, pulling the cork straight out, and some models are even transparent so you can see the cork getting sucked along.

That said, some wine openers are a little more touchy and need to be inserted close to the exact center of the cork to work correctly, which might be tricky the more bottles you have opened in a single evening!

With compact kitchen storage a high priority for home owners and apartment dwellers alike, we thought it was important to see if the wine openers we reviewed could be easily stored.

Top 5 Best Electric Wine Openers

If storage is at a premium, then you probably want to opt for the smallest electric wine opener you can find. This will usually mean a battery-operated model since they don’t have a charging station.

Not all rechargeable models take up much space, though, so if you want something with a small footprint, then you might want to look into a model that has a recharging dock about the same size as the bottom of the wine opener itself, so you aren’t taking up all that much space in a cabinet or countertop.

Finally, battery or charge life is important because you don’t want to wait for your opener to charge when you’re ready for a glass of wine.

This can really matter because a lot of electric wine openers take up to 8 hours to charge – and no one wants to wait that long for their wine.

Some things to consider when it comes to battery and charge life:

  • How often you drink wine
  • How many bottles you open at a time
  • How easy it is to charge the opener
  • If you’re willing to leave the opener plugged in at all times

If you’re find with dedicating a wall outlet in your kitchen to your wine opener, by all means leave it plugged in so you are sure it’s ready to go at a moment’s notice.

If you can’t spare the space or electricity, then you might want to opt for a model with a longer charge life. This is often measured in the number of bottles that can be opened before a recharge or new batteries are need – for example, 80 bottles, 150 bottles, etc.

Now, you’re probably not going to be opening 80 bottles of wine in a single day (we hope), so this is more a measure of how long you can go without recharging your opener if you open say, 2 bottles a week.

Keep in mind that, as with most electronic devices, some energy tends to leach out over time even if the unit isn’t being used. So if you only pull out your electronic wine opener once a month, it might not go years without needing a charge.

Electric Wine Openers for Arthritis

Electric Wine Opener Buyers Guide

Arthritis is the most commonly known, but if you have any joint condition that effects the strength and dexterity of your hands, then you know that small tasks like opening a can or a bottle of wine become nearly impossible.

Some research has suggested that drinking red wine in moderation can help stave off certain kinds of arthritis, so many in this community have turned to electric wine openers to help prevent aggravating their condition.

If you have joint pain, then an electric wine opener should have a handle that’s easy to grip and a puncture device that doesn’t need a precise angle. The goal here is to make sure that the relaxing glass of wine you’re trying to pour yourself doesn’t end up making your hands hurt more.

Electric Wine Openers for the Wine Enthusiast

You can really have some fun with some of the special features out there on electric wine openers. If you drink wine frequently, then you might like the ease of an electric wine opener and the ability to open a bottle without breaking the cork.

Some wine openers even have a special function that lets you reseal the bottle with the same cork. This could be important if you have a nice bottle of wine that you want to savor over time, or if you don’t like to drink very much at a time.

Even if you’re just getting into the world of wine appreciation, there are a few key storage and serving priorities that can be made easier with an electric wine opener.

  • Storage Position
  • Temperature
  • Light Levels
  • Decanting
  • Serving Glass
  • Aeration

While wine fans can get deep into the minutiae of perfect temperature levels and the ideal “breathing” time for a glass of wine, just learning a few simple tricks of the trade can help you keep your wine in perfect condition, ready to serve at a moment’s notice.

First off, it’s important to store your wine on its side in a dark place, with a cool and constant temperature and low humidity. This is why people built wine cellars in the old days, but now you can just check the label to see if your wine requires refrigeration or if a dim closet or basement will work.

It’s also a good idea to avoid moving the wine too often and to not store it near smelly things that might affect the cork, since natural materials absorb scent very easily.

To serve your wine with your snazzy new electric wine opener, you generally let wine “breathe” or “aerate” for a while – this is the process of letting oxygen interact with your wine to improve the flavor.

Some people like to use a decanter, which is basically just a separate container where your wine sits for a while before serving. Some of the more deluxe wine opener models have built-in aerators, which immediately aerates the wine without any waiting time.

For perfect presentation, use glasses with round bowls for red wine and narrow glasses with white wine, plus you’re probably familiar with the specialized champagne flutes from movies and weddings. Generally, red wines are served at room temperature and white wines are chilled first, though there’s a wide variety of personal preferences, too.

Electric wine openers are an affordable way to make your wine drinking experience much less stressful. While the Ozeri Nouveaux II is our pick for most of us who drink wine fairly regularly, take a look through our Top 5 picks for one that has the right combination of special features and size for your bar or counter.

Since most electric wine openers can open quite a few bottles before needing a recharge, you may not even need a bulky docking station to sit permanently on your countertop.

Opening a bottle of wine shouldn’t be a stressful experience, so do yourself a favor and invest in an electric wine opener asap.
